Theme
A positive, sustainable future!
Activity Duration
4 – 8 hours
Group Size
15 – 25 students
Objectives
In the process, students develop an answer to the question ‘what
intermediate steps take place between now and your vision of the future in
2100? What social, economic and political changes have led to the future of
2100? What new norms and values have we developed? How does climate
change play a role?’
Description
In the travel guide of the future, students visualize the future by creating a
travel guide about a destination in their country in 2100. The prerequisite is
a positive, sustainable future – one country where they would like to live.
They describe that destination using:
what is there to see?
what do people eat & drink?
what do people do in their free time?
how do we travel?
what role does nature play?
The teacher can give the students a presentation format (the travel guide)
or give them free rein to be creative (students design a holiday fair,
website, vlog, brochure, video for a travel program, etc.).
Materials/Tools
The student can choose which work form he/she uses.
As a teacher you can make an example to help the students on their way,
depending on the level and/or prior knowledge. Possibly a Powerpoint presentation to introduce the assignment and a worksheet on which the conditions of the travel guide must comply.
Space (indoor, outdoor,
settings…)
indoor or/and outdoor
Structures/steps (timing)
Introduction (5 min)
Preparatory PowerPoint (optional, max. 15 minutes)
Explanation of the assignment 5 to 10 minutes
Students go outside, do research, look around, take notes (1.5 hours)
(Possibly split into two lessons)
Check where the students are with the assignment (5 minutes)
Students do the necessary research online (30 minutes)
Creating the design (travel guide, flyer, video) (1.5 hours)
Evaluation System/Tools
Create a kind of travel agency. Have the students visit each other
questions.
Each student can “book” a trip with 1 other student.
The students present to each other why they chose this trip.
